Thursday’s Grace Note

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.  Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know {Him} {in this way} no longer.  Therefore if anyone is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.  2Cr 5:14 – 17

Christ saves us, gives us eternal life, and secures for us a place in eternity.  His love then motivates us, controls us, inspires us, corrects us, and drives us.  The believer, saved by His grace, is immediately and eternally changed.  A new life begins.  No longer in love with sin, the believer is now in love with Christ.  Thus, behaviors, attitudes, wants, desires, pleasures, and thoughts are changed.  Over time, as grace becomes more amazing, as the believer understands it, and Him, more, the child of God is changed, even more.  Sin becomes more offensive.  Laziness is replaced by hard work.  Silence is exchanged for the proclamation of truth.  Grace does not create inactive, sitting-on-our-hands, waiting for heaven types of people.  Neither does it create bitter, resentful, bigoted, close-minded religion-ists.  No.  Grace, and it’s transforming work, create thankful, giving, caring, thoughtful, loving, dutiful, patient, spiritual, kind, inventive people.  We must, at all costs, continue to teach grace – the unmerited favor of our King.
